Residence Tour

This tour provides the same information and covers the same areas as the Audio Interpretation Tour, but affords the visitor opportunity to ask questions and discuss areas of interest with a knowledgeable guide. This tour is designed for the enthusiast who wants to delve more deeply into the Knights’ history and the history of the many other occupants of this home ranging from the 1920s to present day.
 

Hunting & Maritime Heritage Tour

Available Monday- Friday at 1:00 pm

This unique tour explores the waterfowl hunting and maritime history of the Currituck Outer Banks and the Whalehead Club. The tour begins on the front lawn of the Whalehead Club and into the Knights’ Residence to the Gun Room. From here the visitor will be taken down the path to the Boathouse where one will explore two floors including the Guides Lounge and Generator Room, and will have the opportunity to see an original “test brand” from Mr. EC Knight’s own decoy branding iron!
Groups of 15 or more receive a Group Rate of $5 per person.

Boat House Tour

$5.00 -A more in depth tour of the Boat House. Explore the inside workings of the two floors of the boat house which include The Guides Lounge and Generator Room.The boat house was a place teeming with activity, where the decoys and hunting skiffs were stored, and where grain, to lure the waterfowl witing range of the hunters, was kept.  Also, you will have the opportunity to see an originial "test brand" from Mr. EC Knight's own decoy branding iron. Groups of 15 or more receive a Group Rate of $5 per person.

Behind The Scenes: Then & Now Tour

Avilable Monday - Friday at  2:00pm 

Discover the lives of the many servants employed by the Knights at Corolla Island during the 1920s and 30s. Employing both local help and transporting their full time staff from Middletown, RI, the Knights helped many families during the financially tough time that we know as the Great Depression. The mix of servants included immigrants from England and Portugal, as well as native Corolla residents. Learn about their tasks as servants, as well as the multi-cultural mixes and influences. Also, meet our staff today and hear how the current “servants” of the Whalehead Club keep this marvelous museum running. This tour begins on the front porch of the Whalehead Club and takes the visitor through servant areas such as the kitchen and living quarters. See areas of the house not included in other tours such as the attic and the Curator’s Office!
 

Daylight Ghost Tour

Available Monday- Friday at 3:00pm Ages 6 and older
Ghosts, Pirates & Shipwrecks! This popular tour encompasses Outer Banks legend and lore with a focus on Historic Corolla Village and the Whalehead Club. Hear stories about famous shipwrecks such as the Metropolis, how they impacted the residents in Corolla, and the ghostly tales that the locals tell about lives lost from this wreck. This tour begins near the west end of the front lawn and continues toward the boat docks for a proper shipwreck story setting. From here your guide will lead you inside the Whalehead Club to share tales of ghosts seen and heard throughout areas of this marvelous house.
 

Moonlight Legend, Lore & Ghost Tour

Ages 9 and older (If your child is afraid of the dark or does not enjoy ghost stories, we DO NOT recommend this tour.)Similar to the Daylight Ghost Tour, but with a few twists! This tour begins on the grounds outside of the Whalehead Club with the guide delving into local ghostly lore involving shipwrecks on the Outer Banks, and legends about pirates such as the famous Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard! The tour continues inside the Whalehead Club with visitors hearing tales about ghostly sights and sounds witnessed by occupants and guests at this amazing house. You will also hear about the research findings by the Coastal Paranormal Investigations group and Haunted North Carolina when they visited the Whalehead Club in the summer of 2009. *Please note: Participants are asked to bring a flashlight as this tour takes place in the dark both inside and outside the house. It is also recommended that guests be prepared with a light sweater or jacket and insect repellent.
